MAGNETICS
Dyco Electronics manufactures a wide range of military and commercial magnetics. We make transformers, reactors, inductors, chokes, coils...just about anything that involves copper foil or copper magnet wire. We also do simple electrical and mechanical assemblies and have extensive molding and potting capabilities.
We invite you to send us your mature magnetics requirements for bid or challenge us with your problem parts or assemblies. Either way we are committed to bringing increased value to you the customer because we do believe that in your success lies our success!
Impedance, (Z) is a measure for the manner and degree a component resists the flow of electrical current if a given voltage is applied. It is denoted by the symbol Z and is measured in ohms. Impedance differs from simple resistance in that it takes into possible phase offset. For a magnetics component impedance is comprised of the copper loses due to the resistance of the magnet wire and the inductive reactance losses associated with the changing magnetics and electric field losses. The summation of these resistive and reactive loss components are performed with vector addition.
The permeability of a magnetic material about a specified operating point and applied magnetics field strength, especially under DC bias conditions. The incremental permeability is expressed as the slope of the B-H characteristic about the given operating point (dB/dH).
A magnetics material derived from iron oxides. The material is pulverized into extremely small particle size, then sintered to insulate the individual particles prior to being mixed with binders and pressed into magnetic shapes such as bobbins, toroids, axial leaded coil forms, E-cores, etc. By adjusting the iron oxide mix different grades of materials are achieved aimed at providing a magnetic material useable for specific applications.
An Air Core Coil is an inductive component that is not wound on a magnetics core. An air coil consists only of magnet wire wound in a self supporting configuration, the term is also frequently used to describe coils wound on any non- magnetics coil form such as a phenolic or paper tube. The winding may be a single or multiple layer.
An Air Gap, (lg) is the distance of non-magnetic length introduced into a magnetics circuit. The gap can be air or it can also be non-magnetic spacers. The gap is used to introduce a magnetics resistance to flux lines reducing the saturation effect of high levels of current imposed onto the magnetic coil. In the diagram below the air gap is denoted by the letter “g”. An effect known as fringing can reduce the magnetics size of the air gap.
